Catchment Care

PublishingPageContent

Children by a streamThis program is designed to have students investigate a local waterway in order to increase their understanding of the natural world and the relationships between plants, animals and their environment.

Students will view the Barambah catchment from the top of One Tree Hill, and walk along A Flat Creek noting the features of this waterway.  They will collect and identify macro-invertebrates and make inferences about the health of A Flat Creek based on their findings.  Scientific equipment used will include ponding nets, identification charts, digital microscopes, iPads and magnifying viewers.

The program culminates with students participating in a revegetation project to increase local waterway health.

This program complements the Eco – Warriors and Bush Explorers programs and catchment activities can easily be incorporated into these programs.
