Barambah Environmental Education Centre is pleased to announce we are now offering Adventurous Journeys for participants in the Duke of Edinburgh program. We are a Department of Education and Training (DET) residential camp facility located in Wrattens Regional Park about 50km west of Gympie. At Barambah, we work together to ensure that every day, every student is learning and achieving in our outdoor context by connecting to place and caring for self, caring for others and caring for country. Students are immersed in experiential learning opportunities utilising unique learning sites located on a traditional Aboriginal pathway, rich in culture and history.
Adventurous journeys (practice and qualifying)
The Adventurous Journeys offered by Barambah EEC will take the format of lightweight bushwalking and campouts or accommodation in our dormitory style cabins. We have access to an extensive network of tracks in Wrattens National and Regional Parks and are able to provide activities suitable for Bridge, Bronze and Silver awards. We are able to provide all required camping gear (tents, packs, cookers, sleep mats), participants will need to bring personal gear and bedding. Award Units are welcome to contact us to discuss their needs, and as we book out it is suggested contact is made well in advance of proposed journeys. Bridge program level 1 and level 2
Level 1
We are able to offer a one day hike through various types of terrain and can incorporate navigational skills and field studies if required. Day packs can be provided or participants can bring their own.
Level 2
We are able to offer two consecutive days of hiking with overnight accommodation at our Centre. Navigational skills and field studies can be incorporated if required. Participants will need to bring morning tea and lunch on the first day, all other meals can be provided if required. Day packs can be provided or participants can bring their own.
Practice and qualifying adventurous journey options
Barambah Adventurous Journey options for Bronze and Silver awards will meet both practice and qualifying requirements.
Duke of Edinburgh bronze awards
We are able to offer a two day hike with either a campout night or accommodation in our dormitory style cabins. Participants can bring their own food; or choose a partly catered option utilising our Camp Food Store as part of their planning process. Award Units will need to supply at least 1 adult volunteer to assist with supervision, depending on the number of participants.
Duke of Edinburgh silver awards
We are able to offer a three day two night hike with a campout the first night and accommodation in our dormitory style cabins the second night. Participants can bring their own food or choose a partly catered option utilising our Camp Food Store as part of their planning process. Award Units will need to supply at least 1 adult volunteer to assist with supervision, depending on the number of participants.
Maximum group size will be 28 participants (4 x 7 sub-groups).
