Project
description
The
Barambah Environmental Education Centre WFE is designed to engage pre-service
teachers with learning beyond the classroom pedagogy, the teaching of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and histories, leadership and
education for sustainability principles and practices. The major focus will be dependent on the camp
program chosen by the school for the time the pre-service teachers attend. The WFE will be conducted onsite at Barambah
Environmental Education Centre and will involve the pre-service teachers
engaging with our visiting client schools.
The duration of the WFE will be 3 days/2nights or 4 days/3 nights
(limited camps are 5 days/4 nights). There
are also opportunities to participate in campouts. Pre-service teachers will have the
opportunity to manage groups of students in indoor and outdoor classroom
settings. We occasionally deliver day programs in the Sunshine Coast region
which is another WFE option for pre-service teachers.
Transport, either by their own car, car pooling or via the campus shuttle (picked up and dropped off by one of our staff at the bus drop off)
to and from Barambah EEC or offsite location is the responsibility of the
students who engage with this WFE.
Accommodation is available at no cost at the Centre. Anticipated hours credited for this WFE will
be dependent on the program chosen by the school however should be in the range
of 14 hours (3 day program) – 24 hours (5 day program). Extra hours can be accrued through voluntary
engagement with the visiting school outside of programmed instruction time.
Professional Development Activities: How will the pre-service
teacher be prepared for the project?
The pre-service teacher will spend time with the Barambah
teaching staff prior to the client schools arriving to allow time for an orientation
session about the setting and program and also the relevant risk management of
activities.
Additional sessions will be offered to the pre-service
teachers if they wish to practice activities such as nocturnal animal tracking
and bird identification (this would provide additional hours credited for the
WFE.)
Confirmation forms, medical forms and the "What to Expect on a Wider Field Experience" document can be found under the support and resources tab.
A friendly reminder, due to current COVID vaccination mandates, you must be double vaccinated and be able to show your vaccination certificate to complete your Wider Field Experience at Barambah.
